Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta will travel to neighboring South Sudan on Tuesday for talks with President Salva Kiir about the continuing conflict in the oil-producing nation, Kiir’s spokesman said.

The two will discuss violence that erupted in July, former Vice President Riek Machar’s flight from the country, and a United Nations resolution to deploy 4,000 more peacekeepers in the country, Ateny Wek Ateny said by phone from the capital, Juba.

Kiir formed a transitional government with ex-rebel leader Machar in April to stop the fighting that’s also forced 2 million people from their homes since late 2013. In the fighting in July, Kiir’s troops drove out Machar and his forces from Juba. Hundreds died in the fighting, which the UN said involved targeted ethnic killings and rapes mostly by soldiers loyal to Kiir.
